Pulpitis Treatment in Litomyšl

Expert pulpitis care – trusted dentists serving patients from Litomyšl, Svitavy and the Pardubice region.

What is root pulpitis?

Pulpitis is an inflammation of the dental pulp — the soft inner tissue of the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. It’s most commonly caused by untreated deep decay, but may also result from trauma or complications during previous dental procedures. At Nova Smile Dental Clinic in Litomyšl, we use modern methods to relieve pain and save the tooth, even in advanced cases.

There are two main forms of pulpitis, each with different symptoms:

Acute Pulpitis. Characterized by sharp, spontaneous pain that intensifies at night. The tooth becomes sensitive to cold, and the discomfort continues even after the stimulus is gone. Tapping the tooth usually does not cause pain.

Chronic Pulpitis. Pain is dull and intermittent, often triggered by hot food or drinks. Cold may relieve it. Tapping the tooth may cause discomfort.

Early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of saving the pulp and preserving the tooth. At Nova Smile in Litomyšl, we use advanced diagnostics and always strive to maintain as much of the natural tooth structure as possible.

Our patients from Litomyšl, Svitavy, and the entire Pardubice region trust us for expert and compassionate care.

What Causes Pulpitis?

  • Acute Pulpitis often starts after untreated caries. The first stage lasts up to 2 days and causes sharp pain. The second, diffuse stage may last up to 2 weeks, with pain radiating to the jaw or temples in 30–40 minute intervals.

  • Chronic Pulpitis can last for weeks or even years. Symptoms include bleeding gums, unpleasant odor, visible cavities, and risks such as granulomas or necrosis.

If left untreated, pulpitis spreads to the periodontal tissues and root canals. That’s why we strongly recommend early intervention.

How We Treat Pulpitis at Nova Smile

Before starting treatment, we perform a detailed examination and take X-rays to distinguish pulpitis from other conditions like periodontitis.

We offer two main treatment approaches:

  • Surgical Method. If the pulp is irreversibly damaged, we remove it, clean and seal the root canals, and restore the tooth.

  • Conservative Method. If possible, we aim to preserve the pulp (fully or partially) using medication to stop the inflammation.

In about 90% of cases, full removal of the pulp is necessary. The treatment includes:

  • Careful enlargement of the canals

  • Canal filling with bioactive cement to promote tissue regeneration

  • Composite filling and restoration of the tooth’s shape

What to Expect During and After Treatment

Treating pulpitis is more complex than treating regular cavities and may require 2–3 appointments. The process includes:

  • Temporary filling to let the canal material fully cure and dry

  • Permanent filling on the second visit, performed painlessly and quickly

  • Final polishing and recommendations for aftercare

A tooth without pulp may become fragile or darker over time. To prevent cracks and preserve aesthetics, we often recommend a ceramic inlay, which strengthens the tooth and maintains its natural appearance.
